Here’s my advice for agents on navigating today’s political climate.

As an agent, you have to make a conscious decision on how you’re going to respond when it comes to divisive and polarizing topics. This year, it’s the election, but it could be any number of other politicized topics.

Early on in my real estate career, a mentor of mine told me that the best way to proceed as a professional in this situation is to be like Switzerland. Think about it: How often have you seen Switzerland in the news because they’re doing something controversial or taking a hard stance on something? The reality is that they don’t. Switzerland is a neutral country, which means most people are comfortable putting their money in Swiss banks and buying Swiss goods like fine chocolates and watches.

“I’m more concerned about what’s happening in my backyard.”

When it comes to conversations with clients, be very careful. Your opinion is your opinion, and if it doesn’t pertain directly to real estate, it doesn’t benefit you or your client. This includes your social media presence. You have to realize that if you’re going to vocalize your beliefs, you might be narrowing your clientele along the political spectrum.

I focus on real estate and doing what’s best for my clients. I spend my time learning about the local market and to be frank, it’s not my priority to know what’s happening politically. I’m more concerned about what’s happening right here in my backyard where I help people buy, sell, and invest in real estate every day.

If you have any questions about this, your business plan for 2021, or anything else, I’d love to meet up. Just give me a call or send me an email and we’ll get a time squared away.
